The Mérida English Library presented their eighth edition of the Art Studies Tour with a range of 42 local and international artists, in which 33 galleries located in the Historic Center of the Yucatecan capital participated. The event was held on February 15th and 16th.

The poet Fernando de la Cruz, a member of the board of directors at the library, it was reported that the Tour returned because the resounding success of the event last year.

The participating artists developed in disciplines such as sculpting, painting, engraving, photographing, and more that will also be represented. The two-day format provided the opportunity to visit the wide range of galleries distributed not only in the center, but also in surrounding neighborhoods such as Itzimná.

“The artists are a mix of locals, nationals, and internationals living and working in Mérida. Many of our artists are represented in museums around the world, but the Art Studies Tour is the only one in which the studios are open to the public,” Cruz explained.

An objective of the event was that the attendees have adequate time to discuss with the artists their creative processes and have the opportunity to acquire some of their works. The idea of ??the tour was that it is done on foot and in a self-guided way.

Juan Pueblo, one of the invited artists, recounted his experience participating in the event previously and assured that it is a platform that allows artists to continue experimentation with their creations. His statements were seconded by Aidé Maya, a plastic artist who was also present.

Fernando de la Cruz clarified that the event is not focused exclusively on expatriates, that is, foreigners living in the Historic Center; but they want with each edition the event to attract the attention of the local public more and more. He added that last year the attendance was split in half between Meridans and foreigners.
